Rafe is 4 months old now.  It's 6:25 am after a windy evening and night.  We have a little routine of sorts, of course always ready to change.  We have just fed the dog, and the cat, and we pressed the start button on a pot of coffee after grinding the beans, measuring the water, and spilling some old grounds on the way to the trash can.  Daddy sleeps.  Baby has pooped.

Going Back

Going back. We had the baby. He was induced on November 1st and born on the 3rd. His nose is so different now, three months later. I wish I could go back in time just for his first hour. I would ask the nurses to unswaddle him and hold him against me: even though I don't think he has or will suffer because I didn't, I just wish I had been able to. But the doctors had some concerns, and I trusted them, and so my baby was pretty much whisked away to the NICU and I did not see him for 2 or 3 hours after he was born.

Turkey Day Eureka!

Now that I have successfully uncovered this blog created hastily in the summer of 2008 in northern Minnesota, I would like to welcome you, us, and anyone that may read this. I trust you enjoyed a wonderful Thanksgiving supper 2011.

Yes, it's been a few years since I've seen this blog.

We had a delicious spread that was somewhat interrupted by Dave's oncoming migraine. Nonetheless eats were enjoyed with Jenne and Rafe (on left, 20 days young!) and Tina and Sam (~ 2000 days old now), and sent a good deal of food back for Dave. The weather was impeccable. I know, I've never used that word describing weather before but it really was everything you could want. Clear, warm (upper 60's), no breeze, and leaves still hanging on the oaks. Poplars, gums, and hickory's are bare. Dave and I remarked that in Ohio (or any number of places) it was likely cold and grey and not at all conducive of tipping a drink in the back yard like we did here in Piedmont of North Carolina.

OK, these things are more interesting with a photo so I am going to peal one off of Jenne's Mac here. This is Rafe in Grandma's hands, taken by our friend Soo Keith. He had a good day, with many many more to come.

Cheers,
Zack

11th Crow Wing Lake

Minnesota has so many lakes that they run out of names and then add numbers to them. We are staying on the northeast side of 11th Crow Wing Lake in Hubbard County, in the headwaters of the Crow Wing River. It's July 29th. Clear, breezy, and "hot". Hot for northern Minnesota means upper 80's. And the humidity is low. All in all a wonderful summer day. We took a short boat ride.
